St Raphaël, established in 1830, is a French apéritif brand named after the archangel Saint Raphael, known for producing fortified wines. By the 1930s, St Raphael had established itself as a leading brand in France's competitive beverage market. As with many alcoholic beverages of the time, the visual identity of the brand played a significant role in attracting customers, particularly through outdoor advertising and posters.

In 1936, St Raphaël sought to update its visual identity to reflect a more modern, sophisticated image. For this task, they turned to French poster artist and painter, Charles Loupot. The result of this collaboration was the most iconic logo and posters in the history of French advertising.
